The Executives’ Time Management Guide

Congratulations, your career has just taken a major step forward and you finally been promoted into the executive job that you’ve always dreamt of. However, you know about to find out the real meaning of stress. You now have responsibilities that extend well beyond your day-to-day job, for example you are now responsible for the actions of others.   3. Prioritise. As a busy executive, you almost certainly have a long list of things that you need to achieve. The natural reaction simply to perform them in the order you get them. However, not only is this very inefficient it can also lead to problems with clients or your staff members. You need to learn to assign priorities to the most important tasks and perform them as soon as possible (it’s worth noting that the most important tasks are not always the biggest ones). Review your progress and reprioritise on a regular, preferably daily basis.
  4. Learn to move on. If you had a bad day, it can be easy to dwell on the failures. However, this will only prevent you moving on and be more productive for the rest of the week enabling you to quickly assess what went wrong, how you fixed it (or how to fix it) and what you can do to prevent it happening again. The important thing is not to obsess over little details and always remember to try and focus on the big picture.
  5. Develop good habits. The power of habit is one of the most important things in being able to run a successful business and have a successful career. Try and schedule tasks at regular times in the day or week such as checking your emails first thing in the morning. By developing a habit you will be able to get those tasks out of the way without thinking about them, freeing up your time for more creative and rewarding tasks. This is one of the most powerful aspects of effective time management.

The way business is today is constantly evolving and requires flexibility and an innovative approach. As a busy executive you will find yourself juggling many plates at the same time so developing effective time management skills is one of the most important things you will do. However, with a bit of work and attention to detail as possible for even the most disorganised person to turn themselves into a professional business executive and add value to the company.
